"Between your students and the world: Creating Community Engagement that Sustains"

This presentation from the 2019 El Sistema USA National Symposium was led by Clara Hardie, Director of Detroit Youth Volume (Detroit, MI), and Cecelia Sharpe, Director of Urban Stringz (Detroit, MI).

About the session

Experience how two Detroit arts organizations are reinforcing positive cultural identities in their students through collaborations with local artists. Directors of Urban Stringz and Detroit Youth Volume will share their methods, victories and challenges of expanding a community that cares. The audience will be guided through a group brainstorming session, and walk away with tangible ways that their programs can be more community-aligned and community-reliant now, and in the future.
